Business Can Become Personal

The pressure of leading, making decisions, managing people, and feeling responsible for what happens does not stay contained within the workday.

A difficult quarter can feel personal.

An employee problem can feel personal.

Feedback can feel personal.

The fear of disappointing people can influence decisions you know need to be made.

The business affects you. And what is happening within you affects how you lead, work, and live.

Therapy provides a confidential place to understand both.

The Human Side of Business and Leadership

Human behavior affects every part of a company.

  • It affects how you respond when someone disappoints you.
  • It affects whether you address a problem or avoid it.
  • It affects who you trust, what you delegate, how you handle conflict, and what happens when you feel pressure to always have the answer.
  • It can also affect how tightly you hold on to control, how much responsibility you take for other people, and whether your sense of worth has become tied to being productive, successful, or needed.

You may already know what you are supposed to do.

  • You know you need to have the conversation.
  • You know you need to let someone else take responsibility.
  • You know one difficult outcome does not define you.
  • You know you cannot keep working at the same pace forever.

The harder question is often why doing something different feels so difficult.

That is the work therapy allows us to explore.

Therapy vs Leadership Development

Leadership DevelopmentTherapy

Leadership Development focuses on the responsibilities and skills involved in leading people.

Therapy focuses on the personal experiences, emotions, beliefs, and patterns that influence how you lead.

Leadership Development may help you prepare for a difficult conversation.

Therapy may explore why conflict feels threatening, why you fear disappointing someone, or why another person's reaction feels like something you need to prevent or control.

Leadership Development may help you delegate more clearly.

Therapy may explore why trusting someone else feels uncomfortable, why you take the work back, or why being less involved makes you question your value.

Leadership Development may help you step into a larger role.

Therapy may explore the past experiences and beliefs that make you question whether you are capable of leading—such as having worked under a difficult boss, never seeing leadership modeled well, or believing you are not outgoing, confident, assertive, or experienced enough to lead a team.

The two forms of work can complement each other, but they are not interchangeable.

When Danielle is providing Leadership Development, the work remains focused on leadership. Therapy is provided separately as a clinical service with its own boundaries, responsibilities, and purpose.

What We May Work On Together

Therapy is shaped by your individual needs, history, and goals. Our work may include:

  • Understanding what happens internally when you feel criticized, disappointed, or under pressure—and learning how to regulate your emotions before responding
  • Exploring why certain conversations feel so uncomfortable that you avoid them, even when you know they need to happen
  • Understanding why conflict, criticism, or another person's reaction can feel so personal
  • Separating a business problem from what you believe it says about your ability, identity, or worth
  • Exploring the pressure to always appear confident, capable, or certain for the people depending on you
  • Recognizing why uncertainty may cause you to become more controlling or more involved than you want to be
  • Understanding why trusting other people with meaningful responsibility feels difficult, even when you know you cannot continue doing everything yourself
  • Exploring where perfectionism came from and how it affects the standards you hold for yourself and others
  • Understanding why you feel responsible for other people's emotions, reactions, or disappointment
  • Addressing burnout, chronic stress, and the difficulty of mentally leaving work when the workday is over
  • Navigating conflict with a spouse or family members when the demands of work continue spilling into home life
  • Managing the guilt of feeling pulled between the business, the people depending on you, and the relationships that matter to you
  • Working through the experiences and beliefs that make you question whether you are capable of leading. Maybe you had a difficult boss. Maybe leadership was never modeled well. Maybe you believe you are not outgoing, confident, assertive, or experienced enough to lead a team.
  • Processing difficult experiences with previous bosses, employers, business partners, or unhealthy work environments that continue to shape how you respond today
  • Recognizing patterns that repeat across work, leadership, and personal relationships
  • Navigating the identity changes that come with becoming a founder, taking on greater responsibility, or moving into a role you never imagined yourself holding
  • Building a life and sense of self that are not entirely dependent on your work, performance, or how needed you are

The goal is not only to change the behavior.

It is to understand where the behavior came from, what it has been protecting you from, and whether it is still helping you lead and live the way you want to.

Therapy May Be Right for You If...

  • You understand what needs to change but continue repeating the same patterns.
  • Business problems regularly feel like personal failures.
  • You avoid conversations because you are worried about conflict or another person's response.
  • You feel pressure to appear capable, calm, or certain even when you are struggling.
  • You take responsibility for problems and emotions that do not entirely belong to you.
  • You feel pulled in too many directions and guilty that work, family, or your relationships are not getting enough of you.
  • You become more controlling when you feel uncertain or overwhelmed.
  • You have difficulty trusting other people with meaningful responsibility.
  • Your worth has become tied to how productive, successful, involved, or needed you are.
  • You are burned out but struggle to slow down without feeling guilty.
  • You are moving into a new stage of leadership and do not feel like the person you think the role requires.
  • Previous experiences continue to affect how you respond to people and situations today.
  • You want a therapist who understands both human behavior and the realities of running a business or leading inside a company.

Therapy May Not Be Right for You If...

  • You are primarily looking for help redesigning your company, clarifying roles, or improving how work gets done.
  • You want business advice or someone to tell you which company decision to make.
  • Your primary goal is to improve a leadership skill without exploring the personal patterns affecting it.
  • You are seeking couples, family, or child therapy.
  • You are outside California at the time therapy services would be provided.
  • You need a level of care or clinical specialty that Danielle does not provide.

When another service or provider would better meet your needs, Danielle will be direct about that and refer you to it.

About Danielle

Danielle Nunes is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has been licensed in the State of California since 2017.

She has worked in behavioral health for more than a decade and has supported founders, executives, professionals, and leaders at many stages of their careers, including physicians, attorneys, executives, founders, business owners, and managers.

Danielle also spent years leading within large behavioral health companies. She understands the pressure of making decisions that affect employees, clients, performance, and the future of a company—not only from a clinical perspective, but from having held that responsibility herself.

Her work is grounded in the belief that human behavior cannot be separated from business and leadership.

The way people respond to pressure, handle conflict, understand their worth, build trust, manage emotion, and relate to others will eventually show up in the way they lead.

One client once jokingly referred to Danielle as

“Wendy from Billions.”

It was funny, but there was also some truth in it.

Sometimes leaders need a confidential place where they can stop performing, say what they are actually thinking, understand what is happening beneath the surface, and work through the human side of the responsibility they hold.

That is what this space is for.
